Steve Cohen is a graduate of Lehman College with a master's degree in education, and was a special education teacher and teacher trainer in New York City. Since 1988, he has co-led golf workshops in personal growth at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, where, as a long-time resident, he had served as a member of the senior management team, group leader and gestalt practitioner. In 1992 Steve founded the Shivas Irons Society in the belief that the metaphoric qualities of sport, especially golf, provide limitless opportunities for learning, self-discovery and transformation. The Society is a non-profit educational/charitable corporation with a worldwide membership of more than 1000 golfing men and women.
