Course description

  • 18 holes, par 72, 6621 yards
  • Designed by Edwin Palmer and associates
  • Opened in 2006, scheduled for major renovation in 2012

Special features/accolades

  • Located just 20 minutes from the Semarang international airport and 15 minutes from the heart of the city.

Key achievements in environment

   Social activities

  • Providing a green area in what was previously a wasteland for the people of Semarang, including neighboring communities.  Reduction in landslide risks because of planting on the course.

   Nature reserve

  • Located minutes from the center of Semarang, a city of 1.5 million in Central Java, Gombel serves as a de facto nature reserve and green lung.
  • Plans are underway for a bird census.

   Ecological restoration

  • Gombel is located on previously-unproductive land that was rich in clay and subject to landslides. It was not used for agriculture and was a semi-abandoned site. The vegetation and planting of the golf course has stabilized and reduced the frequency of landslides (although they still occur), and created a thriving natural environment where previously there was a wasteland.

   Membership involvement

  • Gombel has planted hundreds of trees to provide habitat for wildlife. Also, members participate in the "Go Green" program of the city by releasing hundreds of birds and tree planting.

Philosophy
"Gombel is an important icon of Central Java because it maintains a natural green area in the middle of the city and helps position the region as a golf tourism destination."

H. Bibit Waluyo
Governor of Central Java
