Course description

  • 18-hole golf course (6,249 metres, Par 72), designed by Neil Crafter.
  • Lauched by Tiger Woods in November 1999 during the World Cup in MINES Resort & Golf Club..

Special features/accolades

  • Clubhouse with amenities such as:
30 accomodation rooms and suites with a Back to Nature theme, The Jungle Spa & Wellness Center, The Annah Rais Cafe (in-house restaurant) serving organic cuisine, and abundance of nature surrounding the resort.

Key achievements in environment/social activities

  • The whole resort is spread out over a wide area of 5000 acres. Only 1500 acres will be used for development. Development includes, golf course, clubhouse, exclusive bungalow development (controlled), organic farms, water reserviors, landscape gardens, horticulture nursery, etc.
  • Extensive biodiversity; the course functions as a de facto nature reserve.  During annual bird census, conducted by Malaysian Nature Society, 162 bird species have been recorded at Borneo Highlands Resort, including eight endemic species. For complete bird list: click here.
  • Borneo Highlands Resort employs close to 160 employees. 65% of the employees are from the nearby communities (local natives of the area-villages along Padawan). Approx 50% employees have worked for Borneo Highlands Resort for 5 years and above.

 As for the course itself:

  • Minimise use of chemicals, usually not used unless necessary. Use organic based fertilizers for green and tee box. Very low application of fertiziler for rough and fairways.
  • Control of weeds at green and tee box is 100% hand-weeding
  • Hand-weeding to control weeds at landscaping areas
  • Organic fertilizer for landscaping plants
  • Spray fungicide only when needed. Control by means of healthy cultural practises. (Hollow thining, top dressing with sand, etc.)
  • High rainfall in the highlands, the use of pop-up sprinklers only during dryer periods (usually only
1-2 weeks a year). Water source from the sprinkler system comes from natural/crafted water ponds around the course.

Philosophy
"Our resort is all based on the tagline 'Back to Nature, Back to Basics'. This theme is created by Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew (Country Heights Group Founder)."

CEO of Borneo Highlands
