- Laguna Phuket was created on a site that had been determined "too environmentally damaged to have any development potential" in a UNDP survey to examine Phuket’s potential as a tourist destination.
- Development of a diverse, tropical environment inside which the golf course is set.
- Grey water recycling for irrigation within LP creates complete self sufficiency for water – therefore we do not draw from any other external source
- Reduction of chemical usage via a policy of curative, instead of preventative spraying.
- Policy of reducing landscaped areas, relying on the natural beauty of the environment - thereby reducing maintenance (water, chemical usage, GHG emissions).
- Eco friendly walking only policy reduces emissions and promotes the health of our guests.
- Providing extensive staff and caddy training/self improvement programs using the newly developed Banyan Tree training facility.
- Laguna Phuket integrated resort as a whole has over the years initiated countless environmental and socially responsible programs such as:
Major Programmes:
The establishment and continuing operation of Laguna Phuket Childcare Centre to look after staff children. The construction and continuing operation at the Laguna Phuket Community English Language Centre providing lessons of varying levels to adults and children of the local community. The establishment of the Laguna Resort & Hotels Scholarship Fund for deserving children in the community – 40 per year are provided to economically disadvantaged families. Support numerous charities such as the Red Cross, Phuket Disabled Fund, Soi Dogs. Provide support to events in the local community. This includes support for the local temples, traditional Thai festivals and support for marginalized groups (such as OAP’s). Development of Laguna Phuket Children’s Day – an annual carnival providing games and activities for over 10,000 people. Active involvement in the 2004 tsunami recovery process, providing three stages of assistance for local communities – emergency aid, rebuilding, rehabilitating livelihoods. Over 10 years support for a turtle conservation project headed by the Phuket Marine Biological Centre and the Royal Thai Navy which annually culminates in the LP turtle releasing ceremony to raise awareness of the plight of endangered sea turtles. Support and assistance for local children, this includes support of Phuket’s Child Watch Program, support for local monastic duties and integration within the regions schools and universities. Careful management and enhancement of the local environment, ensuring continued development for the regions flora and fauna, especially for the areas sustaining bird life.- Mangrove tree planting scheme – this ecosystem approach to conservation and management rejuvenates the areas coastal defenses, supports the life cycle of a wealth of marine resources and helps to stop pollution to the sea.
