Key achievements in environment/social activities
- Preserving the natural water table
The course is located in an arid region of Bali , so several steps were taken to reduce the impact on the natural water table. The course is planted with grasses which can withstand brackish and saline water. Some ground water is used, but in very limited quantities (the ground water is salty and cannot be used by villagers for farming). In addition, we have built a desalination plant producing about 3,000 cubic meters of water daily. At present the power to run this desalination plant comes from the government electric grid, but we are developing our own independent green energy plant, see below. - Developing solar and wind turbines
We are conducting trials on a 100,000-250,000 watt solar and wind turbine system to become self-sustainable in energy. Eventually we hope to produce some 30 mega kva; some will be used for our site, we will sell some to the government, and we will also provide electricity to the local village at a reduced price. - Preserving local temples
We have preserved and upgraded four temples in the golf course area, working closely with the local community and religious leaders. - Create maximum jobs for people from local communities
Most of our employees are from the adjacent communities. Total employees now around 380 people, including 100 caddies. We give them health insurance which they did not have before.
Philosophy
”Create an environmentally friendly golf course of the highest standard, and respect the local community, including the provision of a maximum number of jobs.”
