Bangkok Golf Club becomes IGOLF’s first laureate course

The Bangkok Golf Club, course located just outside the Thai capital, became IGOLF’s first laureate course.

The award ceremony: Bangkok Golf managing director Suttipong Keanwatana and assistant general manager Tony Choy, right; IGOLF chairman Paul Sochaczewski and IGOLF president Daniel Navid.

During a presentation ceremony at the club on January 17, 2008, Bangkok Golf Club managing director Suttipong Keanwatana confirmed his commitment to nature conservation. In addition to adhering to IGOLF’s eight principles, Mr Suttipong noted that the course has invested some baht 40 million (approximately USD 1.3 million) to plant some 2,500 of varieties of rare plants and trees that are native to Thailand, and to encourage a wide variety of migratory waterfowl and other wildlife. This makes the course a virtual nature reserve, he noted.

In addition, the course is self-sufficient in water, using recycled “grey” water from the nearby hotel.
