"Most Eco-Friendly" course in Vietnam announced
IGOLF Chairman sits on judging panel for Vietnam Golf magazine awards
Van Tri Golf Estate near Hanoi was named as "Vietnam’s Most Eco-Friendly Golf Course 2009"
IGOLF Chairman Paul Sochaczewski developed the criteria for the environmental award and sat on the judging panel. He visited 14 Vietnam golf clubs as part of the evaluation.
"The new environmental award shows that Vietnam Golf magazine recognizes the importance of environmental responsibility in golf." Mr. Sochaczewski noted. "IGOLF hopes that Vietnam Golf magazine will expand the golf and environment awards in 2010, and we also hope to work with Vietnam Golf Association and other groups to continue to educate course owners, directors and government officials about how a well-managed golf course can benefit people and nature."
Mr. Sochaczewski added "we have to acknowledge that while not all golf courses in Vietnam are environmentally-friendly, there are a number of courses which are making a sincere effort and have achieved IGOLF Laureate Course status. These are Song Be Golf Resort, Van Tri Golf Estate and Vietnam Golf and Country Club."
Mr. Sochaczewski also wrote an article containing recommendations for golf courses in the country:
"Golf in Vietnam: Judging the best courses, suggestions for further development", Vietnam Golf magazine, Hanoi, December 2009 (article in Vietnamese and English)
Dalat Palace Golf Club was named Vietnam’s "Best Course".
