Phokeethra Golf Krabi Joins IGOLF Laureate Course program

Daniel Navid, IGOLF President, presenting the IGOLF certificate to Ove Sandstrom, General Manager, Sofitel Phokeethra Krabi

Phokeethra Golf Krabi in Thailand has become the latest IGOLF Laureate Course. This course is a sister property to the world famous Phokeethra Country Club in Siem Reap, Cambodia, an early IGOLF Laureate Course and home to the Cambodian Open on the Asian Golf Tour.

IGOLF President Daniel Navid explains that the Krabi course is a noteworthy addition to IGOLF for several reasons: it is the first IGOLF laureate in Southern Thailand outside of Phuket island (and the eigth in Thailand); it is the first nine-hole course to gain IGOLF recognition and it is located on a coastal area of environmental significance attracting numerous bird and aquatic species.

Ove Sandstrom, the general manager of Sofitel Phokeethra Krabi Resort and Spa, which manages the property, explained to IGOLF the commitment of his company to preserve and protect this fragile coastal environment. He noted that IGOLF recognition is a big help to encourage their sustainable management practices. In particular, plans are being considered to develop a second nine-holes adjacent to the course and this extension will be subject to strict environmental impact requirements.
