The Manila Southwoods becomes first IGOLF Laureate Course in the Philippines

Course is a leader in environmental responsibility; ISO certified

The Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club has become IGOLF’s first Laureate Course in the Philippines.

“We are delighted to welcome Manila Southwoods, which has achieved world-wide recognition for its environmental policy,” noted Paul Sochaczewski, IGOLF chairman. “Their operations could well become a model for other courses which want to be distinguished environmental citizens.”

The club, with two Jack Nicklaus-designed courses, has won numerous accolades, including the Environmental Stewardship Award issued by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, and certification as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. It is also the first golf club in Asia-Pacific certified to Integrated Management Systems (ISO 9001; (ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001). Their environmentally-friendly operations have resulted in reduced operational costs, showing that a club can save money by doing the right thing.

Some of the club’s achievements include:

  • Increase in bird species to 100 from approximately 50 in 1998.
  • Significantly reduced water consumption
  • Reduction in quantity of chemicals and energy consumption
  • Reduced annual cost of waste disposal by 75%
  • Extensive community programs
  • Serves as a nature reserve for Carmona town
