Program
The IGOLF Program - Addressing the problems, finding equitable solutions
Golf operations can make a positive contribution towards the society in which we live. However the media have, justifiably in some cases, pointed out the damage done by golf course operators. IGOLF seeks to address these issues in a positive way, and show that problems have solutions. We hope to provide ideas and useful tools for golf course operators to use to help natural and social environments flourish.
Some of the key issues which IGOLF addresses in its program:
Environmental
- Water reduction, pollution and recycling
- Agronomy-limit use of chemicals
- Energy-reduce energy use, and use non-polluting sources
- Preserve and enhance biological diversity
Social
- Working with the neighboring community
- Appropriate wages and working conditions
- Appropriate land acquisition
- Respect for cultural traditions and historical sites
- Recreational opportunities for non-golfers
In order to address these key issues, the IGOLF program was developed with five themes:
- Sharing the knowledge
- IGOLF Charter
- Promoting responsibility
- Spreading the message
- Recognizing excellence
